Not very well, I'm afraid. Sometimes I just take a break for a week or two but that's not the best idea. Writing is 90% slog, 10% inspiration. Do it even when you think you've got nothing. Make it a habit.

Learn the craft. Self publishing means anyone can publish a novel. Many are simply not publishable because the writer hasn't learned the craft. Take classes, read books on writing by authors you admire, join writer's groups. Pay for professional editing. Most importantly, write as often as you can.

Two novels, both mystery thrillers. The first, Flesh of my Flesh is about Delilah, a Food Network chef whose cooking show gets cancelled so she goes back home to the highway town where she was raised and where her mother Fran, still lives. Fran's done some very bad things. Delilah's no saint.
The second, The Invisible Heiress is about a popular, millennial blogger, Preston Blair, who's been committed to the psych ward for a terrible crime. Her memory of the crime is non-existent because of her drug habit. Preston tells her side of the story via her blog. Her court appointed psychiatrist, Isabel, a hot mess herself, tells her side as well. What happened that night? Who is telling the truth?

I'd lost my hair (alopecia) in spots which really made me re-think physical appearance in general. Then during a trip east my husband and I sat next to an aging, male porn star. A novel was born.
