Aviva Gittle My most recent book is not so recent. But the idea came from seeing a picture of a kitten and butterfly in an artist's portfolio. From there I wrote 7 stories for what became the "Kitten and Friends" series of children's picture books. It's taken years to publish and I'm still not done.
Aviva Gittle I wrote my first song at age seven. I started writing poetry at age eleven. Anguish was typically the inspiration. The need to express many feelings about many things. Cheap therapy.
Aviva Gittle I'm considering writing a story about my friend's daughter who died. It would be a children's picture book very loosely based on a specific time in her life. But, I often get ideas that never become anything. I have a very short attention span. That I wrote a 7-book series is a miracle.
Aviva Gittle Lordy, just write. Not everyone is going to write the great American novel. Write articles on LinkedIn. Jot down ideas for stories. Accept that making a lot of money (or any money) as a writer is a long shot. Write for the joy of it.
Aviva Gittle You always have a safe place to deal with your emotions. A way to express your ideas. Even if no one else ever sees it. It's a gift.
Aviva Gittle I don't. I write when inspiration strikes. I will say that I've always found that just writing and accepting that the first draft will be junk is the best way to deal with a blocked brain. It's easier to develop a story that is at least started than to drop pearls on a blank page.
Aviva Gittle This was my third year posting a picture of myself with one of my books on Twitter and promoting the event. Good stuff. :-)
Aviva Gittle Hi, Andrew! I'm glad that I was able to help. I do very few reviews while I'm running my contest, The Gittle List.

In its 3rd year, The Gittle List is exclusively for indie authors of children's picture books. Learn more: http://goo.gl/BkgVQD

Good luck with your book! You should feel very proud that you published your own story. :-)

Warmly,

-Aviva
