Hi! A reader of all books all of my life, I got into reading crime books when I read The Irish Scissor Sisters by Mick McCaffrey a few years ago and now I love the crime books! I'm looking forward to reading yours! I have written my first book, a personal story, 'My Beautiful Flower' and had it published on amazon in March 2015. But I am trying my hand on writing a crime/fiction book How do you bring it all together?

Garrard Hayes Hi Jean, Congratulations on your first novel. A book that had a positive influence on me was 'On Writing - A Memoir of the Craft' by Stephen King. After a brief biography he does an amazing job of explaining the tools and techniques he uses to create his novels. I highly recommend it. As for me I try to put myself in a crime situation and add personal experiences to my character's background and adventures. If you have fun writing it, there's a good chance your readers will have fun reading. Cheers, Garrard

Garrard, I just put up my review of Bourbon and Blood. A fantastic read. Now I have to ask, when is book 2 due to be published? I don't want to miss it.

Garrard Hayes Hi Nancy, Thank you so much for the absolutely fantastic review of Bourbon & Blood. The sequel is finished and in the process of have a cover designed and being edited. Hang in there should be release in about a month. Thanks again for your interest in Bill Conlin and his adventures.

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Garrard Hayes I use single sentence outlines for events within chapters. I keep it loose and when I get stuck I delete, rearrange or add new outline ideas as needed.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Garrard Hayes It's a 24 hour a day job. You're constantly thinking about what to add to your stories. Once you get the hang of writing your characters will tell you what to write.
