I write out of sequence. If something inspires me, I write about it, forgetting the linear approach. When enough of those scenes are created, ways of connecting them to my plot start jumping out at me.
Also, I listen to music. I create a soundtrack for each novel and link each song to a character or scene. You can't believe how that relaxes my mind and triggers new ideas!
