I write out of sequence. If something inspires me, I write about it, forgetting the linear approach. When enough of those scenes are created, ways of connecting them to my plot start jumping out at me.
Also, I listen to music. I create a soundtrack for each novel and link each song to a character or scene. You can't believe how that relaxes my mind and triggers new ideas!

I love the immersion into unfamiliar territory. To create stories, I visit places that are off the beaten path, read things that normally wouldn't catch my eye and talk with people who have different backgrounds than me. Simply put, I keep learning new things.
