Isabo Kelly Wow that's a great and really tough question, Quinesia! There have been a lot of books over the years that have had a lasting imact on me. I'm not sure if these books left a mark on me as a person, but they certainly played a huge role in my writing life.

One of the most significant books would be Anne McCaffrey's Dragonflight--the first book in the Dragon Riders of Pern series. This was literally the first fantasy novel I ever read. It introduced me to the genre and made me a lifetime lover of fantasy. I think what made the biggest impact was that it included a romance, and in the background of this series, there's a mix of science fiction too. All those genre mixes have followed me into my own writing career so that I can't seem to write without mixing genres now. *g*

For the second book... it's really hard to pick just one more. There are a bunch that have left a huge impact on me. I think, somewhat to my own surprise, I'd have to say Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me. I'm not even entirely sure why that book had such a big impact, but I just loved it beyond all measure. I very rarely reread books because my ToBeRead pile is too big. But I reread Bet Me twice. The combination of humor and completely engaging characters really stuck with me. And it struck me as such a wonderful romance. I just loved it.

Those are two very different books, but they really have had a huge impact on me. If I were allowed a third, I'd have to say Stephen King's Pet Sematary. This was my first full on horror book and got me reading all the books that also later influenced my writing.

Thanks for the question! That really made me think *g*
Isabo Kelly Letting my imagination go. And also getting all the stories in my head out of my head! LOL. If I didn't write them down, they'd still be there, but eventually they'd all bunch up on each other, so it's nice to get them out into the world. I love losing myself in those worlds for a bit, and then being able to show other people those places and stories. It's the best job I've ever had (and I've worked with sharks and dolphins!)
Isabo Kelly I've got some side projects going and soon I'll be writing another hockey romance short story for a second anthology with Stacey Agdern and Cassandra Carr (the first one is Going All In for those interested). I'm also editing the third book in The Naravan Chronicles--Flight of the Ebisu.
Isabo Kelly It's pretty clichéd advice, but the most important thing is to never give up. Your career will go through ups and downs right along with your life. Just keep writing, keep growing, and never quit.
Isabo Kelly By not believing in it :) I do sometimes get stalled in the writing process and have to go off and mull things over, hash out the issues, dig deeper into my characters until I find the answers I need. But I don't actually believe in writer's block as a thing that stops my writing. I've got too many books and projects going! I can't afford to believe in writer's block!
