Trust me, you don't have the time for me to list all the things I love about writing.
To pick just one as 'the best'? Hmm...
Just have to grab the first one that comes to mind - distraction!
... from pain (emotional and physical), grandiose self-speak (creativity is THE most humbling occupation), boredom (what's that?), and housework (now that's boredom!).

Just 'keep on keeping on', and don't let rejections get you down. Just found a site about this subject - http://www.literaryrejections.com/blog/ - scroll down to the bottom of any of the pages and marvel as the titles of famous books roll past under the Rejected label. Most encouraging!
Wish I'd seen that 30+ years ago when I let myself be so deeply discouraged by rejections I convinced myself I was no good, and tucked my words away to gather dust on a back shelf.

Currently editing Book Two of my farming memoirs 'Old McLarsen had some Farms'. The first (just published on Smashwords) is about our 'apprenticeship' on a friend's farm in Western Australia. My current one is about the next decade of our life as dairy farmers back in our home State of South Australia.

Many years ago we had a small holiday shack at a lakeside and two ducks would visit quite regularly... especially when they realised our whole family loved and respected them, and would share our bread. They caught my imagination and the bones of 'When Sampson met Delilah' were born. At this moment it is free to read on Tablo Publishing - http://goo.gl/zYrc1R
