Jon Friedland Mostly from the mat. Something comes up in class, whether it’s a student’s frustration, a question, or a rough roll, and I realize there’s a bigger lesson in it. Then I find a Stoic who nailed it 2,000 years ago. I write it down before it gets buried by the next conversation. My teammates keep handing me material :)
Jon Friedland I started this book by accident. It began as a blog, a way to get my thoughts down after class. The best explanations never came to me on the mat. They came on the ride home or on a morning walk, the “I wish I woulda said it that way” moments. I’d studied Stoicism and Jiujitsu separately for years, and once I saw how much they had in common, I couldn’t stop seeing it. Jiujitsu Stoic is those thoughts gathered up and organized around the four Stoic virtues.
