Marsha Hansen In my day job as a writer for the wonderful university where I work, deadlines are my best friend. If I have a short deadline, I can whip out something that is spectacular with no sense of writer's block. Given more time, I can procrastinate with the best of them...which I think is something we writers confuse with writers' block. So, I suppose the answer is to impose a sense of urgency on whatever I am trying to write. Also, my writing colleague is just brilliant and whenever we talk, we each go away feeling that new and good ideas have started dancing in our heads.
Marsha Hansen Exploration! Writers get to delve into almost anything. I love being able to creatively explore my interests and not be limited in the questions I can ask and seek to answer.
Marsha Hansen Study. Brand yourself. Write. Write some more. Keep writing. Respect your reading audience.
Marsha Hansen I have two manuscripts almost ready for publication. One is my first work of fiction and the other is my manuscript, I Have Called You Friends, which reflects on living responsively to the teachings of Jesus. While I am a Christian, I see the universal themes in many of the world's religions that elevate humanity and call us to serve one another.
Marsha Hansen I'm passionate about life and especially about human rights, so there is never a dearth of topics. Also, I am an avid reader who feels engaged with the minds of the authors I read. In that sense, there is always a conversation going on in my head. I have what Einstein referred to as holy curiosity. I live with a sense of wonder and I love knowing things and exploring ideas.
Marsha Hansen Peter (Huchthausen) and I decided to write Finding God in the Shadows because of our conversations about the difficult choices ordinary people face during the course of their lives. Peter, who'd experienced great success with his earlier books, had a collection of shorter anecdotes that he didn't think could be developed into individual books. Still, he wanted to tell those stories. In our long history as friends, we frequently brought faith into our conversations and the book was a natural outgrowth from those talks.
