As our people say, "He who will jump far must first retreat a few steps." That is my strategy for dealing with writer's block: I retreat over a few chapters and begin my run; if the ideas come then I take my leap into the next chapter. If they don't, then I find a diversion, only thinking of my work once in a while. If this also doesn't work, I repeat the entire routine.
