The story in THE INHERITOR comes from a combination of things. A desire to show people what it's really like to work in the intelligence community, and an appreciation for all the unseen things our men and women in the military do every day to protect us.

I spend quite a bit of time in the morning reading the news from eight or nine different news outlets and another four or five technology periodicals, and I often find the spark of a story idea in something I read. In fact, I just found a story element I'd like to use in a recent Supreme Court decision on cell phone privacy.

Keep at it and be patient. Your time will come. I waited more than seven years to see my first novel in print on a bookstore shelf. Hone your writing skills and keep plugging away.

I enjoy being able to tell what I hope is a good story, and do so in an environment I create and populate with interesting locations and characters. 'World building' is something I very much enjoy.

I haven't really experienced writer's block yet. I plan my stories out with a very detailed chapter by chapter and scene by scene outline, covering time of day, location, characters and what I want that scene to add to the story, and that helps keep me on track.
