That would be "Santa on My Doorstep." The idea popped into my head overnight: a mom and her young son, and "Santa" showing up at their door. Where did the idea come from? I have no idea. As is usually the case, it just showed up. Which is fun, and useful, but doesn't make for a good interview answer. :)

By any number of things. A glimpse of something. A snippet of song lyrics. My stories usually start as mental snapshots of a single scene, or a single line. Then I'm off and running.

I've got a number of things in the hopper: part 3 of my "Something Simple" trilogy, a YA sci fi novel, a family drama novella, and a romance. 2015 will be a busy time -- if I can get my muse to cooperate!

Practice! One of my first writing mentors put it this way: WRITE YOUR FACE OFF! The more you write, the more you exercise those muscles, the better you'll get. Gather opinions. Listen to all of them, ponder them, and take the advice that works for you. But keep at it.

I've got the luxury of publishing on my own schedule, so writer's block isn't as daunting as it might be. My recipe for renewed enthusiasm: go do something else for a while, whether "a while" is a couple of weeks, a couple of months, or a couple of years. Do lots of reading, watching TV and movies. Then come back refreshed!
