Helen A. Quinn Usually when I am walking or on public transport the stories and characters come to me.
Helen A. Quinn Find your own way of writing and avoid imitating others, it is very tempting and there is much advise out there that it can be overwhelming.

I was part of a writer's group and I did find that helpful in starting out. I needed that support and discipline to produce work each month and I learned a lot. Now I need to write alone.

Also I read this one piece of good advise that stuck with me. Before the Beatles became famous they practised something in the region of 100,000 hours. The advise was that writers should do the same. I know that the more I write the better I get.
Helen A. Quinn Having wonderful characters come and talk to you. That moment of being in the flow and you are taking diction from the characters and there is no you, there is just the story pouring out from you.

The other aspect is feedback from readers. I love hearing what readers have to say on my writing / stories.
Helen A. Quinn I wait.

I have just come out of a twelve month period of writer's block. At first I felt guilty, then questioned what is wrong with me and then I eventually accepted it. Writing and meditation are equally important to me. The meditations I do are OSHO meditations. For the last twelve months I had no desire or energy to write. I did try but the words were awkward and clumsy. What I was writing felt inauthentic so I stopped. Now it has passed and I am writing again for now.
