Robert Priest I've got a regular regimen of writing, so a lot of my inspiration comes from within the writing itself as I go along these days. When there is something exterior to that that inspires me it is often a news event or some other impressive event or person that I feel a need to comment on or in the case of people praise — in poems — as in my poems in the book Rosa Rose. Sometimes I get commissioned to write things and in that mode you could actually say that the idea of being paid inspires me.
Robert Priest It arose out of something that happened in my first book in the series. 2 of the characters collide with one another in a magical realm and thereafter each retains a piece of the other. The book is called missing piece. The idea also arises out of the basic architecture of the series which is that of a 3 D grid.
Robert Priest Sometimes I wake up that way. And if not I write my way into it.
Robert Priest I am mostly writing book 3 of my spell crossed series, missing piece, which is being published by Dundurn press. Book 2, second kiss, will be out in April. Book one, the paper sword, came out at the end of July.
Robert Priest Definitely become perspiring riders as soon as possible. Talent, ambition and faith in oneself amount to very little if you don't do the work. Get to work. If you can possibly also have the good sense to have been born rich and healthy you will find that an asset. Get a good ergonomic workstation so that you don't develop repetitive stress injuries from all the writing you're going to have to do over the years
Robert Priest I don't think I would've got together with my longtime partner had I not been a writer. So that's a definite plus. I also like the leaping into magic aspect of creativity that I seem to be able to access through writing.
Robert Priest I don't really get writers block. I can pretty much always write something—whether it's what I want to write or not is another issue. Usually breaks in the writing process for me turn out to have been wise in hindsight.
