I'm preparing to launch my new sci-fi novel, SHIFTER, but for the last couple of weeks that's taking a back-seat to my preparations for GenCon in Indianapolis next week. My day job is doing consumer electronics design, but I have a lot of side hustles keeping me busy outside of work: toy and game invention / creative writing / freelance consultant work.

Honestly my motivation to write comes from seeing sub-par work that's already out in the world. I've gotten overly invested in some not-so-hot book series - it can't really be all that hard can it? /s
On a more positive note, my ideas come from a 20 year career of studying entertainment and material culture. My day job is designing consumer electronics and toys - a lot of which aren't quite possible to make in the real world for one reason or another.

My upcoming sci-fi novel, SHIFTER, was inspired by riding around in the NYC subway and my love of video games. I was thinking it'd be cool to have races in them like Wipeout or any number of other frentic tunnel racers.
