I'm working on a suspense novel set in Vancouver Island and Seattle area about an old ship grounded on a remote beach in a store. The ship carries a couple of hundred illegal immigrants from Pakistan along with munitions. The book goes on to deal with human trafficking and terrorism and how they may be connected.

First I make sure that I have set aside a clear, uninterrupted time to write, usually in the morning. Then, if I have trouble picking up where I left off, I go back as far as necessary into what I have already written of my work in progress to get a sense of where it was going. That usually clears a writer's block. If not, I just grit my teeth and force myself to work about slowly even when I don't sense inspiration.
