Jeanne Moran I'm writing a humorous middle grade fantasy about a free-spirited fairy named Periwinkle and the trouble she makes with her unorthodox ideas. My plan is to make it the first book in a series in which Peri and a self-absorbed, rule-following fairy must team up to find companions for the world's loneliest creatures-- Sasquatch, the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, and Jack Frost.
Jeanne Moran Keep writing! It takes time and practice and more time and more practice to find your voice and hone in on the truth of your story. Don't ever stop trying.
Jeanne Moran The creative process. When something like the above ^^ happens, it's otherworldly. Letting go of conscious effort and allowing my subconscious creativity room to dance is a joy that defies description.
Jeanne Moran For me, writer's block happens at one of two times: when I'm trying too hard or when I've been away from a WIP for a while. In either case, I handle it by trying to become buried in the story, like the way feet along the shore can be buried by repeated waves. I get into position - chin slightly lifted, eyes closed, fingers on the keyboard. I let my characters and settings and problems wash around me. Usually in minutes (although admittedly sometimes longer), I am submerged in the story. Then I let the story reveal itself through my fingertips.
