George Steger I just plow into it, write whatever comes to mind, dumb as hell or crazy. And then comes the fun part - rewriting and changing it into something of value.
George Steger The thrill of creating a world and peopling it with whomever you please -people you've known well and loved, people who are intriguing. people who matter and change things - all the stuff you wish you could have accomplished or done and a lot of the stuff you did do, sort of.
George Steger Write about you love or what inspires you. Have fun. Don't sweat so much. What will be will be.
George Steger I'm working on the third book of the Sebastian Chronicles, the last one. It will include Charlemagne's death and the challenge posed to his great empire by the onslaughts of Vikings from the north, Magyars from the east and Saracens from the south. It's a wonder any part of it actually survived. But it went on for many years as "The Holy Roman Empire", never as great as when it was ruled by Karl der Grosse, but still a reminder of union and what might have been and eventually became in the present day European Union.
George Steger I never thought of it before my wife of many years died. Then I just had to have something to do to keep from going crazy, Writing just occurred to me; I've always been a romantic anyway, and I found it to be both fun and terrifically absorbing, especially if one is writing about something really interesting, like medieval history.
George Steger From the fourteen years I spent in Europe while in the Army - on both sides of the Iron Curtain; and from my years as a professor of history at the University of Saint Mary, where I taught medieval history for many years.
