Read a lot and write a lot. Study writing books. Attend writers' conferences. Join groups with other authors. It takes time and patience, but you will see improvement!
Also, if you're not feeling inspired (when you normally do feel inspired), then something is probably wrong with the plot or other components of the story. I recommend you set it aside then re-evalute.

What was the inspiration behind this series?
The tagline of the Desert of Dreams Series says it all: Trauma. Resilience. Hope.
Growing up, I didn’t know many people who had “normal” childhoods. Most of my friends, much like my characters, survived trauma that presented itself in many forms—neglect, as well as physical, mental, emotional, and sexual abuse. While being a latchkey kid may have been typical in the 1980s and 1990s, abuse should never be normalized. Ever.
It's amazing what a good therapist, counselor, or psychologist can do to help people to work through trauma and develop resilience, so that we can overcome the worst of the worst. Keep hope alive, because as my friends will tell you: it does get better.
And there are good people out there. Trust me… there are. Hold on to those friendships.
