Matthew L. Martin I have about twenty ideas and counting that I'm kicking around. Some are nothing more than a title and a one-sentence hook. Some are a few paragraphs worth of a story. Some are outlined and ready for me to get around to them.

And then there are two books I'm writing, alternating between each one. The first is a prequel to Geriatric Zombie Apocalypse. The second is a wholly new take on The Count of Monte Cristo, set during the American Civil War era.
Matthew L. Martin I outline outline outline so writer's block only happens when I reach the end of a chapter or a mini-arc and realize I only wrote a third as many words as I intended. It's then I sit and stare for a bit at my screen, trying to think about what I can add to flesh out an idea.

I usually stop writing and work on something else. Watching a movie/show is also good for inspiration but more often than not I just need to stop trying to make the idea happen and just be patient. Eventually, something comes to me.

If not that, re-reading the book usually leads me to stumble upon an idea I can play with, spinning it off into a new story thread.
