If I'm stuck I'll use a writing prompt. I keep a few of Sarah Selecky's stashed away for that very purpose. Or, Natalie Goldberg's Writing Down the Bones has a few juicy prompts like: Write down "I remember..." and write until the scene ends. Repeat. If that gets tired, switch it up to "I don't remember..."
Go for a walk. On the walk, choose a colour, say, blue. Notice everything that is that colour. It will clear your mind. Come back and write down a list "Thing that are blue".
Pick a letter. Set a timer for six minutes. Write down all the words that you can think of that start with that letter. A great warm up exercise that can be used as a prompt. When the timer stops, set it again, this time for ten minutes. Write a scene using three of the words from the list.
