Read your genre that you want to write for. If you want to write YA, read YA constantly. If you want to write picture books, get to your local library at least once a week and have a stack of picture books in front of you and read, read, read.

I practice two important things...step away from the piece for a while and return to it after a break. Also I keep immersing myself with like-minded people...follow writers' blogs, participate in writing webinars, and stay active in my critique group.

I am working on a number of things at the moment. My third self-pubbed picture book on dachshunds is in the illustration phase. I am polishing up some PB manuscripts to sub out and am always writing new stories. I have several works-in-progress.
