Jevon Bolden How do I deal with writer's block? It may sound crazy, but Ernest Hemmingway and I write through it. His book "A Moveable Feast" is such a great picture of a writer working through the ups and downs of the writing life. I love this book. He dealt with himself so graciously when the words wouldn't come. One of his quotes that has lived with me since reading his book is "Do not worry. You have always written before and you will write now." I talk about how to write through writer's block and other inspirational tricks in my book Break Through Writer's Block, available on my website: jevonbolden.com.
Jevon Bolden Having the chance to really articulate what's in your heart--meticulously and carefully, editing it until it strikes the right chord. You can't do that always in verbal communication--at least my introvert self is still working that out. I love that in writing, I feel a deeper sense of my own self-expression.
Jevon Bolden Writing is a generous work. If you are publishing to sell your work. It is not really only about you and only about what you want to say. Writing is quite a bit others-oriented. Connect with people in everyday life. Follow important conversations in social media. Get a feel for where people's hearts are and what they need. Then take what matters to you and blend it with what you've discovered they need, and write to that.
Jevon Bolden I am always working on something for other authors. My full-time work involves editing, writing, agenting, and consulting form and with authors who are publishing independently and traditionally.

What I am working on for me is a successful launch for my newest book Pray Hear Write and it's long-lasting place as a valuable resource to writers. This could mean that I form a community around it--retreats, workshops, and such--but that's all still developing.
Jevon Bolden Sometimes my inspiration to write something seems to drop out of thin air, but really it comes from my engagement with people--especially other writers. I see needs and then can visualize and conceptualize the solutions. Being moved to provide a solution to a problem is what inspires a lot of what I write.
Jevon Bolden I have been working in the publishing industry for 15 years, and coming up with great ideas for authors and their books have been a demand in my roles as an acquisitions editor and developmental editor. I have been also a Christian most of my life and have found that beyond the practical skills of brainstorming and research, I have experienced the blessing divine assistance to give my work the right advantage. That is where ancient biblical practices of prayer and fasting to quiet my spirit comes in so I can hear what the Creator is saying toward the creative work I am blessed to participate in. Being created in God's image means that I have the capacity to create as He creates. And many times, as many of us in the book business know, it feels like books are created out of thin air. I have been a student of literature and writing most of my educational experience, so I know the foundational skills of composition. But beyond that, I have found that nothing compares in my life to what happens when I combine those skills with prayer. Praying to God and hearing from Him strategies and ideas have yielded some amazing results that I do not think I would have had if it were not for those spiritual practices. With that, the book Pray Hear Write is my offering to writers who want to go beyond the common practices of brainstorming and conceptualizing into a realm of God-ideas that really have a transformational impact on the lives of their readers.
