Strikes you as a piece of junk? It strikes me you have not read it or you'd have a firm opinion. Never form an opinion or review a book you've never read.

Years ago, in early 1980s, I was in the military. While I was stationed in Germany, a female airman working in the building next to mine, was raped and murdered horribly while on night duty. I had met her and knew her casually, and the murder affected my coworkers and me deeply. I've always been tempted to use that as the basis for a mystery.

Bella and Zadist from J.R.Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood. Why? Because they started their relationship like thunderstoms crashing into each other and ended together in the most beautiful way I've ever read.

Stop listening to advice from people who claim to know what is good writing but make their living giving advice rather than writing novels.
Do not change your work for every review you get. Some readers will hate you no matter what you do. Others will love you. You'll find your fans between the two.
Make sure that you learn your craft well, and by that I mean your grammar, your story elements, your writing voice. Your book needs to be your book, not your editor's book.

From all the vampire novels I've read over the years. It's a favorite genre of mine, and I decided to finally tackle it with a story of my own. However, I did not want to do what has been done so many times before and extremely well by authors such as JR Ward and Lara Adrian. My vampire protagonist is not your tattooed, oversexed, idealized hunk. He is very flawed and needs a lot of work, but readers seem to love him!

That is very difficult to answer. I have so many ideas, but they are just that. It is a long road between an idea and that first chapter. If you mean what motivates me to open up the computer and start writing, I would have to say my own desire to create something. If you mean what inspires me to write about a specific idea or character, I would have to say my dreams and fantasies, and definitely my views of the world around me.

I try not to worry about it and wait until it goes away. If you try to force it, the product is not good because it does not flow from inspiration.

My new vampire romance series, Angel's Guardian. The first book came out in late July, 2016. I am now working on the second, tentatively titled Thicker than blood.
