My favorite fictional couple is the unlikely pair of George Smiley and Lady Ann Sercombe Smiley. John Le Carre created a dazzling, dysfunctional, on-again, off-again, all too human pair. I like them because they reveal much about the human heart - passion, rebellion, insecurity, loss, a desire for redemption, and the mystery of what makes two people fall in and out of love again and again. George knows Ann is no good for him, he's knows the relationship will never be what he wants it to be. But, he loves her just the same. He can't help himself. Classic!

Don't listen to naysayers, and don't be afraid to take risks. Writing is an art form, and like other art forms, different things will appeal to different people. Play your own tune and tell you own story - your way.
