Shannon Anderson I'm working on a book for teachers about ways to motivate kids to want to come to school every day. I'm a third grade teacher and love my job. I want kids to love coming to our room to learn. My ideas in the book are ways I've connected with kids and built a classroom of trust and creativity.
Shannon Anderson I always tell aspiring writers that there are 4 big things you must do to become a writer:
1. Read a lot of books, especially the kind you would like to write.
2. Write. Write a lot! You'll get better with experience.
3. Learn from others. This can be from a critique partner, faculty at conferences, or by taking classes.
4. Never give up. Some people may not resonate with something you write. But, some people will LOVE what you write. Hang in there.
Shannon Anderson I'm working on two books for teachers, the third story in a picture book series, and a middle grade book about growth mindset. I have other books on my computer that are in idea phase, but that is constant!
Shannon Anderson I write in all kinds of different formats. If I'm having trouble feeling inspired while working on a book for teachers, I may switch to a children's book. If my poetry isn't coming along, I may turn to something nonfiction. If words are not coming in any form, I may take a walk, eat some ice-cream, or organize a closet and come back to it later! :)
