I was thinking about this young boy that my grandmother used to clean their house..yes my gran was a maid like Abeline :-)... well she used to bring him extra chicken from home because at his house his mother only made just enough food for their family of four. For dinner there was four pieces of chicken, four hamburgers, only four slices of lasagna for each meal...this young boy told my grandmother that one day when he grew up he was gonna eat all the food he wanted. Imagine that his family could afford a maid but couldn't afford to give their kids extras for dinner. So my gran cooked extra when she came over and fed the boys her chicken, she brought them extra mini Chess pies etc... I wonder about that young boy.. I wonder if he ever got to eat his fill.

Life inspires me, a song inspires me, watching people inspires me, art inspires me..my mind is always creating. I write, I draw, I quilt, I cook, I make jewelry...the beauty of every day things, experiences and people inspire me to tell their story. Go to a thrift store and you see an old tattered quilt that obviously was well used and was once made with love... there is a story there just waiting to be told.

I'm working on a short novella.. which I think is a little harder to write because you have to get a sense of the characters in fewer words.. you have to develop them in a moment when they tell you something about themselves...you only have so many of those moments because it's a short story so your words have to be calculating and exact.

Be a voracious reader, you learn the craft with each new author you read... also write unselfconsciously...the story will be whatever it wants to be...your job is to write it..bring it into being.

Creating new worlds and stories..your mind can take you places you even never dreamed of. I love the escape each new book brings.

I read some of my favorite authors, I watch movies, I create art in other forms, I get outside and walk let my mind create scenarios with whatever I see and I allow the beauty and creativity of others inspire me.
