Anthony Mercier I believe I was first inspired by Lord of the Rings when I read the series in the 4th grade. I wanted to see the movies, and my parents told me I'd have to read the books or it wouldn't make sense, so I did. I was always creative and liked making games to play with my friends, creating worlds and characters that spawned my first ideas shortly after. My 4th grade writing was a far cry from what I do now, but persistence and constantly writing (and thinking I was good the whole time) led me to eventually land where I am, and I'm a lot more confident in it now.
Anthony Mercier For my newly published book, I began writing it about 10 years ago. The initial idea has always been there, and was intended to be a sequel to Defenders of Laia (which I planned to write first). The point of it was that the hero of my original series is reincarnated a thousand years later, in modern-day, to save the world in an entirely different fashion. Events changed, and I wound up writing and publishing the SEQUEL before the initial books. We'll likely see Defenders of Laia published eventually, but not until Sovereign Soul gains some traction.
Anthony Mercier Usually, I listen to music on my way to work. If something pops up, I jot it down in Evernote. It doesn't always keep me inspired for when I get home, but at least something's happening. My true writing inspiration hits me like a train whenever it wants, and usually when I can't write.
Anthony Mercier Multiple things - I'm writing the second book in the Sovereign Soul series, currently titled "The Serpent Empire." I'm also dabbling in other books that may or may not see the light of day before Sovereign Soul reaches completion. I'm also spending day after day on social media, promoting my book as hard as I can afford.
Anthony Mercier Persistence. Driving yourself to finish that manuscript, perfect it, not rush it, and send it to every damned publisher in existence. Well, maybe not all. Your efforts WILL pay off.
Anthony Mercier Having a whole world spun up in my head. It's my excuse for having a terrible memory. At any given time, I can pretty much imagine what would be going on in my books or relate it to something.
Anthony Mercier When I have the time where I SHOULD be writing, I focus on other stuff for my books instead. Inspiration will hit me like a brick when it does, and I know I'll be racing for the laptop sooner than later.
Anthony Mercier I finally searched up my favorite childhood book. It's out of print.
Anthony Mercier Like most authors, I would enjoy my own book world! However, I'd very much like to go to the world of Tamora Pierce or Christopher Paolini.
Anthony Mercier I've been super behind on my reading. That being said, I've picked up two books I intend to read soon: Christopher Paolini's "The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm"; as well as "The Scribbly Man" by Terry Goodkind.
