Anne Peterson Reading the works of others inspires me to write. When I hear a good speaker who knows exactly how to articulate, or when I read a good book, post, or blog, then I want to sit down and either respond or to try to put my views out there. Good reading inspires good writing.
Anne Peterson The best thing about being a writer for me is knowing that what I put on paper may affect other people. It may encourage them, it may educate them, or it may motivate them. One thing I do hope is that they will somehow be changed, or made aware of something new. I want my writing to make a difference in people's lives.
Anne Peterson When I feel my writing is blocked I keep writing, even if it's just the words, "I don't know what to write," over and over again. I find that eventually the words that seem to be trapped will get freed. Don't edit as you write. When you edit you are using the non-creative part of your brain. First, let it all out. You can edit it later. Let those words come rushing out. Then you can decide who will stay, and which words you will call back for another time.
Anne Peterson If you have a story within you that you want to write, do what you can to get it out. If you need training, you might want to consider taking a course. Here's one I took given by Jeff Goins.

He only offers it once or twice a year.

Anne Peterson Presently, I am working on a poetry book which will be poems no one has seen as yet. The book will be illustrations by my daughter Jessica Peterson. In fact, I would look at her pictures and then write my poems.
Anne Peterson My children's books were hiding inside of me. After writing Broken: A Story of Abuse and Survival, they seem to bubble right out of me.
