Faith Blum My first book, A Mighty Fortress, was published in November 2013. Before my baby, it would usually about 1 year from rough draft to publication, sometimes less. Now it is taking a wee bit longer.
Faith Blum No, I don't. I usually do try to write with the intent to publish, but not always.
Faith Blum All the books are gone. My life is over.
Faith Blum Good question. I would probably go to Harper's Station in Karen Witemeyer's books to meet some of the ladies there.
Faith Blum Good question. To be honest, I don't really know. They usually just come to me. Sometimes it's a movie or book that I didn't really like a certain aspect of, so I decide to write it better. Other times it's a minor character who demands their own story, so I figure out his or her backstory and where they are headed and work on a plot to get him or her there.
Faith Blum Someone to Trust by Melanie Snitker, Exiles by Jaye L. Knight, my own books as I get them ready to edit, and there are a couple more I said I would read and review, but I can't remember the titles at the moment.
Faith Blum That is a good question. This is probably already the plot to many a book, but I guess I would say "Where does the time go?" It seems like time slips by much too quickly.
Faith Blum Levi and Eve from Karen Witemeyer's book, To Win Her Heart. They are such opposites, but also have a lot alike. I loved the way they interacted with each other.
Faith Blum To be honest, I'm not sure I really have a secret. I'm not always focused, but I just keep plugging away. Plus I don't have any other paying job, so if I want to be able to afford things, I need to keep writing. :)
Faith Blum Hi, Kelsey! Thanks for the great question!

Now for a not-so-great answer. I didn't really do any research about mail order brides. I had read quite a few fiction stories about mail order brides, so I just went with those. That being said, I recently got a book called, "The Writer's Guide to Everyday Life in the Wild West" by Candy Moulton. In there is a chapter on Marriage and Family that talks about mail order brides.
Candy also has additional reading suggestions at the end of the chapter. One of the books in there in particular sounds especially promising. "I Do! Courtship, Love and Marriage on the American Frontier" by Cathy Luchetti.
I hope this helps!
Faith Blum I do know I won't find a perfect man to marry, but yes, I do have a list of traits I would like in a future husband.
Faith Blum Right now, it's easy. I have a series of books I am writing right now, so I am concentrating on those, one at a time. When (if) I finish the series, I'll have to figure that out. Because yes, I have a billion story ideas. And I keep coming up with more, thus the "if" about finishing the Hymns of the West series.
Faith Blum I've read quite a few mail order bride stories and always wanted to write one of my own that was a little different from the usual. Instead of desperate woman writing desperate (or almost desperate) man and eventually falling in love with each other, I have a woman who isn't completely desperate writing to a man who isn't even 100% sure he wants to get married. And they also do not fall in love due to some tragedy or adventure that happens.
Faith Blum Being able to escape from reality and still be productive because you are using your imagination and (eventually) helping others use theirs.
Faith Blum Just keep on writing. The only thing that will keep you from become an author is to actually stop writing. Also, it was helpful to me to have a few people critique my writing so I could learn to make my writing even better.
Faith Blum Books #2 and 3 in the Hymns of the West series: "Be Thou My Vision" and "Amazing Grace". I am working on them almost at the same time because they are so interconnected that I need to make sure all the details fit into each other.
