Marty Almquist This goes back to my earlier response of just sit down and start writing, even if it look like garbage.
If I'm really feeling distracted by life, I don't force it. I give myself a break and a chance to breathe before going back in.
Marty Almquist I am a creative person, and writing lets me share that with people in a way that I hope brings pleasure and takes them away from their troubles and daily problems. There's nothing better than getting an email or a text or a call from someone saying that your words meant something special for them.
Marty Almquist I think the simplest advice, and the hardest to do, is to just let yourself write. Get your basic idea in mind and sit down and just GO. I always call my first draft of a novel my "vomit version" because I really try to not self-correct too much, but instead just get the ideas on paper.

I will also say that every single writer has a different thing that works for them, so you will have to discover yours by trying different things.
Marty Almquist I'm just starting Book Four which will take place, as the others have, in Paris and just south of there in Vezelay.
Carolyn discovers old letters from an uncle that she never knew existed, and she and her daughter-in-law set off together to see if they can find and reconnect with any family still alive, as well as to right a wrong that she thinks her mother may have committed.
Marty Almquist Several of my friends have become empty nesters and unfortunately, that has caused some to split up after many years of marriage. It made me think about often that happens and I wanted to write a story that showed that neither person is the "bad guy" but instead that people can simply grow apart, especially if there is not enough communication along the way. I've also talked to friends who had regrets about not doing a particular thing in their lives and so I wanted to give my character Jane the chance to do that.
