My most recent book, "Soul Revision," came over the course of several years, as I was studying several of the major religions of the world & as my own spiritual practices were evolving. Motherhood, womanhood, personal growth, & trauma recovery all motivated & inspired me to write the pieces in that book.

Many things inspire me to write. Music, emotions, nature, dreams, photographs, etc. Being awake late at night, the water running in the shower (or over a sink full of dishes), changes in season, smells, & the highs & lows of bipolar disorder are all muses for me.
Living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for 25 years, my natural reaction to triggers & attacks is to retreat to a quiet place & write. Many of my poems come during these times.

I am currently working on the final steps to releasing a book that was 10 years in the making - "Beside You: Diary of a NICU Mom." It was the journal I kept from the unexpected end of my pregnancy at 24 weeks, through my daughter's 111 day stay in neonatal intensive care. I'm preparing for its release in August 2019, & I want to give it to my daughter on her 11th birthday soon after.

My #1 piece of advice for aspiring writers is this: Free write. Every day. Make it a discipline to write first & edit later. Practicing & developing this ability brings forth so much more creatively. When thoughts & ideas are flowing, but you are distracted by self doubt & editing, you can snuff out brilliant writing in the early stages. Use music, changes of scenery, nature, & even less conventional modes of getting your content out, such as voice recorders, & figure out what allows you to get what's in your head - out - without editing & overthinking. And then....once you've mastered that, master editing.

The best thing about being a writer for me, is the courage it has given me. All of my writing began as a therapeutic outlet for adverse experiences. From abuse & trauma to depression, writing has given me the ability to cope with & process experiences that I didn't have the words to speak about or the tools to cope with & constructively face. Being a writer has saved my life.

I have chronic & inherent writer's block. Strangely, I have never been able to sit down with a topic in mind & deliberately write, productively. I write by muse, emotion, & divine inspiration only, it seems. So my go-to solution is MUSIC. Music is the only thing that can completely disrupt my brainwaves, change or influence my mood & emotions, & it works!
