I was stationed in Cuba before Castro and saw how the people lived. I have always wanted to tell the story of the Cuban peasants. I had a story of a romance but no background. When I combined the two stories, they story was born.

I'm not sure I have ever had writers block in its accepted concept. There are days that I am too busy doing other things and don't have the time and there are days when I would rather be outside doing things instead of just writing about it.
