Elin Barnes Patent law fascinates me. I wanted to explore that world a little. However, the first idea I had ended up not working because it wasn't realistic (I discovered this once I started doing research). Then, after hours for brainstorming, I came up with the actual idea for Smoke Screen.
Elin Barnes I think once you start you can't stop. In fact, when I don't write, I miss it.

However, you can't force new ideas. I normally see something or experience something that triggers a scene and then I build on that. Then I mature it before I start the actual writing. I don't plot, but I have to have the main idea of the book before I go for it. At least, that has been true with the first two books and the one I'm about to start.
Elin Barnes Just submitted the final version to my copy editor. Waiting for his changes, then I'll do a final version and publish it on July 31st!

I'm also thinking about book #3, but I don't allow myself to start writing it until I'm finished with the second one.
Elin Barnes Just do it. Really. That is all there is to it.

Sit down, put some headsets on (if you need to) and write the book you've always wanted to write.

There is an incredible feeling of accomplishment once you've done it. Very few things come close.
Elin Barnes That you can create an entire different world that exists in some way.
Elin Barnes I just start writing. It could be anything, but normally just a sentence or two (which I probably won't keep later), is enough to get me going.

There are times when I'm truly stuck, but it's more about solving a plot issue than because I have writer's block. In these situations, I just bug everybody I know about the problem I'm trying to solve until we come up with a brilliant idea.
