Nancy Churnin Remind myself the story is bigger and more important than I am. The story must be told. Put your shoulder to the task and push through. If you put the story first, ahead of all your resistance, the story will prevail. I am the story's conduit, its servant, I am honored with this task. i am thankful to do it! Life is short. I don't waste time not doing what I need, want and love to do.
Nancy Churnin Living in a world of words and understanding the world through the journeys of the stories we tell. Learning that through these journeys we have lit up and made manifest with our words, that we have cleared a path or eased a way or brought joy to others.
Nancy Churnin Write! Dream! Ask your heart what you are meant to do and do it. Take online writing classes, join critique groups and find comrades there who will strengthen and cheer you for what can be a long journey ahead.
Nancy Churnin Several projects always, including one I will be happy to announce as soon as it finds a home. It's another picture book biography of an amazing person who was once deservedly famous (and did a great thing for kids) and is in danger of being forgotten by a new generation.
Nancy Churnin I am always inspired to write. The tough question is how to remember to pull myself away from writing for the daily tasks of life including taking pots off the stove before they burn. (I have burned a lot of pots.)
Nancy Churnin I wrote article about a play, 'The Signal Season of Dummy Hoy,' at Garland High School in Texas for The Dallas Morning News. I received a thank you email from Steve Sandy in Ohio. I said, "You're welcome, but why is someone in Ohio interested in a play in Garland, Texas?" He told me Hoy is a Deaf hero and he has been trying to get Hoy into the National Baseball Hall of Fame for decades. We began an email correspondence. I told him I thought Hoy's story would be inspirational for kids. He agreed and promised he would get me all the information I could possibly need about this amazing man.
