I got the idea for Her Hometown Hero when watching the T.V. show, Yes, to the Dress. I young widow was marrying her deceased husband's army buddy. I screamed at the T.V. set, "are you crazy? Have you learned nothing?" Then I had to write that story to find out why someone who'd already lost one husband in the line of duty would ever consider marrying another man with a dangerous job. BTW, Her Hometown Hero will be out Oct. 24th.

The best advice I can give for aspiring writers is to write at least a little bit every day. Even if you think it's not good, or no one reads it, you still need to get those words on the page. Then an aspiring writer needs to commit to getting better. Take classes, go to conferences, hear writers you like speak. I also suggest when you find a particular book you like that you re-read it, this time looking at character development, plot, dialogue, etc. Do copy the author's way of writing just examine what made it so enjoyable to you.

The best part of being a writer is hearing from readers. I love knowing I've given them some measure of enjoyment.

For me writer's block comes in degrees. If I'm not motivated to write or stuck on a particular scene, I set a timer for 15 minutes and duct tape myself to the chair. Then I write whatever comes to me even if its bad. If I'm in the "weeds" regarding a part of the plot that's not going the way I want, I usually take a break and do something else for a while. Clean the house, go for a walk, anything to give my brain a rest. It also helps to talk out the issue.
