Vernell Chapman My uncle has been researching our family tree for the last 25 years or so. I think the traits I've exhibited during my adult life could be attributed in some way to my ancestors. I'd love to write that story!
Vernell Chapman I gather inspiration from many things. I could be on vacation, at work or even driving in my car. I never know when inspiration will come which is why I carry a tablet with me wherever I go.

I can see a building, a person or hear a song that gives me inspiration. So I make notes or take pictures to help me recall what inspired me to write. It really helps me a lot!
Vernell Chapman My most recent book is a Novella titled, 'The Journey of Maggie Misson'. The novella is based on a character that appeared in my second book, 'The Fountain: Secrets of Seulmonde'.

For some reason, this character stayed on my mind. I wanted people to know more about her. I wanted people to relate to her on a more personal level and the only way that would happen is if I wrote more about her. So "The Journey of Maggie Misson' came to life!
Vernell Chapman The best thing an aspiring writer can do is to have a plan and to carefully analyze what their goals are for becoming a writer. The more you know, the more you can prepare yourself for the possible outcomes of a writing career. An aspiring writer should ask themselves the following questions:

1. How do you plan to meet your goals?
2. How much time do you have to invest in writing?
3. Will you pursue a traditional publisher or will you self-publish?
4. What is your marketing plan?
5. Who is your target audience?

Once you've done all your homework, you've answered these questions and you have a plan, then you can execute your strategy. And if being a writer is what you truly want, be prepared to give 110% to make it happen.
Vernell Chapman The best part of being a writer is the feeling of creating a story and having others enjoy it. I love inventing characters that people can connect with.
Vernell Chapman Nothing can stifle a writer more than reaching a point when the ideas stop
coming. I offer three quick methods of fighting writer's block once and for all:

1. If you get to a point in your writing that you can't sort out, skip it. You
can always return to the troublesome part of the story when you've worked through the details.
2. How many times have you been in the grocery store or in your car when a great idea came to mind only to have the idea slip away when you walk into the house? Here's an idea… Carry a small notebook with you when you leave the house.
3. The most important point of all, is to simply keep writing! Don't stop.
If you write a chapter and end up tossing it later, so be it… Writing anything is better than writing nothing at all.
