I can't take credit for it, but it always makes me pause when I recall it. It was a two-sentence story I ran across many years ago. I'm not even sure who wrote it - but here goes...
The last man on Earth sat in his lonely house. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

I am currently editing and polishing my third novel, Talisgate. This is a new direction for me. It's a first-person YA fantasy story set in 1976. I've very excited about this story. Feedback from beta readers is encouraging.

My most recent, available book is Motes. I have a deep love for this story that is rooted in the multiple influences that drove it. Firstly, I would point to Blaise Pascal's remarkable Pensees as a primary influence. Pascal wrote about the incomprehensible distance between the very large and the very small in our universe - a distance so vast that man, set in the very center of it all, can comprehend neither extreme. Add to this concept my firm belief that science and faith need not be enemies and you have the basic formula for the book. I personally believe that science is a gift from God and we should use it to learn more about His creation. The Mu'ahi in Motes gain incremental knowledge as they mature as a species - knowledge that allows them to survive and eventually encounter human beings here on Earth. I believe the same thing is happening to humans today. We learn more and more as we become more and more capable of understanding and wielding knowledge. It's an on-going process that will lead us to more and more wondrous discoveries - so long as we keep our minds open.
