Paul J. Labonte My battle is not with a lack of ideas, but with a lack of discipline. I have too many hobbies and interests, (if speaking as a writer). If I had a block, I think that I would concentrate on other things, until an idea could form without my trying to force it. I find a half-hour walk can really work wonders and allow my mind to center itself. Be in the moment, right? Changing my perspective opens my possibilities.
Spend more time alone (can't stress enough). Read a book. Learn something new, something challenging. Get out of my comfort zones. Put my fears behind me.
That's what I would do.
Paul J. Labonte I am an 'aspiring' writer, in that, no one's heard of me. I am a writer though, no doubts about it. I've got copies of my books in front of me.
I have no useful knowledge or tips where remuneration and readerships are concerned. If you want to be a writer, what's stopping you? Write. It feels pretty darn good to see a book through to it's completion.
Paul J. Labonte Currently, I'm writing book three of my series, what goes around, feeds the ground. I have thought of playing with a couple other stories that are mulling around up there, and I've had a couple people tell me that I should write a 'how-to' book, as in, self-help, and getting over certain mental hurdles that many people seem to face. My series is fresh in my mind, and I've got plenty to keep me engrossed there, but I am tempted by the notion of helping people without the use of fiction. Food for thought.
Paul J. Labonte Sometimes it's an emotion that triggers the urge. Usually, it's the desire to expand on an idea, or a scene that's been playing out in my mind. It's hard not to be inspired by the endless possibilities that can emerge with this type of material. So, I choose subject matter that inspires my imagination. Simple, but true.
Paul J. Labonte The idea for the story, and series that I'm working on came to me a long time ago. It's been growing over the years, and I decided to finally put pen to paper when I realized that it wouldn't get written otherwise. The idea behind the story itself is simply curiosity. To play with questions that have yet to be answered...or accepted, I suppose. That's the idea. And to do it in as many engaging ways that I can muster.
