Sean Dow Sharon, I have been fortunate enough to get to know a number of people from the Philippines and have found them to be wonderful, and kind. Pictures I have viewed suggest the islands are as beautiful as they suggest, and something made me feel that would be a perfect place to set my story. Have never been there, but hope to. Interestingly, and by pure coincidence, the aunt of a friend lives on Samar, the setting for much of Al-thar.
Sean Dow It flowed from the end of my second novel, "A Leafy Green World," where the protagonist had infiltrated the eco-terrorists of the Northwest, and from there, a group of international terrorists. He convinced the two groups to work together, united in their desire to overthrow the country, the eco-terrorists seeking their perfect natural world, and the much dreamed of caliphate for the others.
Sean Dow A long standing desire, stretching back to high school. Decided if I didn't do it, I never would. Anyone thinking of writing should give it a go, it has been very rewarding.
Sean Dow Currently working on a story where the main character is trying to work his way into a group of international terrorists, to exact revenge. Not normally a fan of sequels, but this one begged to be written, to follow up "A Leafy Green World."
Sean Dow Read your work as if you are a reader, not the writer, then get a good book on self-editing. I loved "Self Editing for Fiction Writers." Finally, if serious about publishing, put your finished product aside for a few weeks, then re-read it and send to a reputable editor-some can be expensive, but this is an ABSOLUTELY vital step-DO NOT THINK OF SKIPPING IT!
Sean Dow Too many good things to say the best, but there is a tremendous sense of accomplishment when a book comes together, and it is very rewarding to hear from people who have enjoyed reading my novels, and seeing their smiles.
Sean Dow First step is a cup of coffee and a comfortable chair. If that fails, I take a break and the ideas usually start to flow in a few days, to a week.
