I don't think you need inspiration to write. It is a process to which you must commit. The inspiration for the idea can come while you're awake or asleep, but it will never see the light of day unless you approach it with a sense of craftsmanship and determination.

Hmmm. I read a negative comment from a troll about one of the first lady's speeches. If you covered the name of the speaker, you would never have known if she was Republican or Democrat. It got me thinking.

I think the best thing about being a writer is the sense of autonomy. You have no boss or bureaucracy to answer to and there is always the possibility that you might be able to make a living at it one day.

I'll go to the small Japanese-themed room in our home, re-read my previous chapter and get started. When that doesn't work, I try not to fight it and go sideways by editing previous work, doing some research, or outlining future chapters. A good way to avoid writer's block is to stop writing mid-chapter so you know where to pick up next time.
