Funny you should ask! We have a running joke at family gatherings about what happened to my sister's battery-operated candle after she hired a new house-cleaning service. I worked the 'mystery' into my new book, Genny's Ballad. (Book 5 of The Sisters, Texas Series)
ReFresh, a new cleaning service in The Sisters, not only cleans, but offers limited decorating services. While customers give the company good reviews, they share a common complaint... small items often come up misplaced. Now a custom-made, burnt orange and white Texas Longhorn recliner is missing, and the owner hired In a Pinch to find it.
Now if only my sister could find that candle.....

If I am having difficulty with a scene, I take a break from writing and do something that does not require brain power. I might wash dishes, sweep, take a shower, etc. -- something that lets my mind go where it will. When I return to my writing, it is usually with a new train of thought and new energy.

Forgotten Boxes:
I love to visit the New England area, particularly in the fall of the year when the colors and the air are so crisp and inviting. I am enchanted by the process of sugarmaking and the delicious simplicity of its products. A local sugarmaker was kind enough to educate me on the art and craft of creating maple syrup, and I shared some of that sweet magic in my story.
The real story, however, is in the boxes. The idea for this book blossomed when I saw a box alongside the highway. It appeared to be still intact, as if it had fallen off a delivery truck. What was inside that box? I wondered. What about the person who was expecting it? What would they think when it did not arrive? What if it that boxed contained something vitally important? Could one undelivered box change a person's life? I had to know the answers. If not for that particular box, then for the countless boxes floating around out there without an owner.
This is the story of five such boxes, undelivered and forgotten over time. When Charity Gannon discovers the parcels in her aunt's barn, she sets out to find their rightful owners. She thought it might be fun to see the people's reactions when she presented their delivery to them, some thirty years later. She thought it might be rewarding; not in a monetary sense, but on an emotional and conscientious level.
Come along as Charity delivers these Forgotten Boxes. Discover which one holds a love story, which one holds heartache. And see how something as simple as a botched delivery can alter a person's life forever.

Thanks for asking! I got the idea after visiting a nearby ranch along the Brazos river-bottom that produces cotton, cattle, and its own feed-line. The railroad stops and loads straight off the farm. There is a scattered collection of houses, outbuildings and an old depot. I could picture it once being a small but active community. My imagination took it from there...
(And, of course, since my husband and I own six commercial broiler houses and raise almost 150,000 chickens at a time, there was very little research needed for this book.)
I hope you enjoyed reading Chicken Scratch, as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope to re-visit the towns of Naomi and Juliet often.

Where do I begin? I get to fulfill a lifelong dream by doing what I love (writing), I can work in my pajamas, travel to interesting places to make my stories authentic, have conversations with imaginary people, and, to make things even better, I actually get paid to do it!

If writing is something you love to do, simply do it! The hardest step to take is the first.

I am currently working on the third installment of the Mirror Don't Lie series, entitled Light from Her Mirror. I hope to have this one out by November. (The second book, Mirror, Mirror on Her Wall will be out in early September.)
Also in the works, a series about a small Texas community and the intriguing people who live there.
