J.L. Kelly The awesome sweet spot of being right where God created you to be. What a privilege to tell the stories that inspire another to believe in the work of God in their own life.
J.L. Kelly Write. Everyday. Read. The classics and the current masters. Study. The craft of story, its parts and players. Join. Find a safe community to practice within and exercise the craft. Pray. Know your voice and what you're being called to say to your audience. Believe. When you put yourself out there the culture is critical by nature, so you have to trust in the heart of your work, it was inspired so please God not man. Be grateful for the gift, especially when its blocked, its a chance to return to the Lord for help.
J.L. Kelly I study God's word. I'm a student at heart and imaginative by nature so forging the two together I've used the tool of Bible study as a launch pad for the foundational truths I'm trying to wrestle and live out in my own life. Being in women's ministry I hear other girls' stories and the universal ones resonate with me and God begins to connect the dots with Truth, meditation and application. When a story/issue/question gets repeated to me several times, I know God is saying, "This Jess, this needs to be storied out." I know an issue like masturbation or cutting can catch a Christian by surprise but these are real issues women are dealing with and God wants to work through those things with us. I never want to be timid or afraid to tell a story, when we keep things a secret, they keep us. We're called to be free.
J.L. Kelly I have a quote by Stephen King on my calendar that holds the page for each date that reads, "Stopping a piece of work just because it's hard either emotionally or imagainatively is a bad idea. Sometimes you have to go on when you don't feel like it & sometimes you're doing good work when it feels like all you're managing to do is shovel shit from a sitting position."
I've often told people to just put your butt in the chair and be odedient to what you're called to do and God will do the work in and through you. It works.
J.L. Kelly I'm currently working right now on (NOT chasing two rabbits because you can catch neither one) as I try to focus on finishing The Power, the prequel to the Power series about Layne and Blair and Curt. I also have the FURY Effect on the side burner for completion.
J.L. Kelly The Glory was inspired from a friend's experience during my freshman year of college. Her friend survived a brutal abduction, PTSD, the trial and sentencing of her attacker and several appeals before his execution for several previous murders and the failed attempt on her life. The victim's story is an illustration of the metamorphosis of sanctification as God uses evil's wounds to become victories scars for His glory.
