Depending on the age of course, but The Thief of Attolia by Meghan Whalen Turner series is WONDERFUL. I really enjoyed Leepike Ridge by N.D. Wilson. The Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull is a hoot and has wonderful sibling interactions. The Tripod Trilogy by John Christopher is a wonderful adventure.
A few great books that are more high school appropriate would be Empire of the East by Fred Saberhagen, The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp by Rick Yancy, and A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. The Paradise War by Stephen Lawhead is great historical fantasy and Hood is great high school age historical fiction.
