Hi Zoe,
I was 44 when I wrote my first book! I think if the story idea comes to you, then write it, whatever age you are. There's a lot of learning along the way and once you have your first draft, keep reworking it, even if you put it in a drawer for a year and pull out it again with fresh eyes.
Kind regards
Emily

The Switch Theory came about from a 1,500 word shorty story that I wrote for a competition. When we were in and out of lockdowns in Melbourne, during Covid, I wanted to write something light and funny and thought that I could turn the idea into a novel. It certainly kept me laughing!

The best advice I could give would be to be open to feedback from experts, like editors, and keep reworking your manuscript and learning from those in the industry. And most of all, no matter how many rejections you may receive, if you really believe in your work, don't give up!

The best thing about being a writer is having the opportunity to create a whole world in my mind, full of interesting characters and storylines. I love that my characters go through a journey of growth and transform on the page.

For most of my books I have a few songs that I listen to that take me to the character's world. If I'm having trouble knowing where to go next, I go for a walk and play those songs and then the next scene flows.
