Mary Kelly Write what you like to read. Take the time to develop the characters even if it is frustrating to wait.
Don't hesitate to abandon an idea if it doesn't work. Sometimes an idea works perfectly, sometimes I have to rewrite everything ten times.
Imagine every scene and say out loud every dialogue you write.
Proofread the text and have a professional cover.
Don't betray your characters. If you gave your hero some qualities, remain faithful to him. If you need to change him, give the reader the chance to understand this change. Don't do it randomly, because it suits you for whatever reason, just to go forward with the story. As a reader I find it frustrating to be invested in a character and discover a 100 pages later that his acts don't fit his portrait.
Don't ever be discouraged. You can't possibly please everyone, just try to do your best.
Mary Kelly My most recent book hasn't been published yet, although it's finished, so I'll answer about the last book I published, which is the third tome of the series: My romantic comedy. I'm a movies lover, I watch all kinds of movies, but I'm particularly fond of romantic comedies, especially screwwball comedies. I just wondered one day if these scenarios could really work in real life and I started imagining how they could turn out if my friends would try them.
I understood that it would be different for each one of them, which made me realize that the possibilities for a funny story were endless. I was right, it was really fun for me to write these books and I abandoned so many other scenarios, that I could have written many more books.
