I've often been told I should write a book, but it wasn't until I worked with hundreds of women and and asked those women to share their stories that I really had a book to write. Because there is a good amount of memoir in the book I also knew that I had a book to write, once I went through a process of healing. I wanted the book to be hopeful and inspiring.

I sit and think a lot. As "woo-woo" as it sounds, I try to feel when something just feels like it's calling out to me to write about. In There is Nothing to Fix, I often wrote about things that happened that day or week or month. I would just experience something and think "I have to put this in my book!"

Right now I'm working on getting the word out about my book! I'll be traveling around and doing events, book readings and book signings. I do have my next couple of books identified though; A book for survivors of sexual trauma, a book for teenagers and those who care for them and I also want to help a good friend and Vietnam Vet write his memoir. He has an amazing story!

My best advice is to just write! Make it a point to write every single day, at a time that you really like (for me it was early morning). Give yourself an attainable goal, for me it was 2000 words minimum per day. The best advice I would give is do NOT sweat over your first draft. Your editor (if he/she is good) will take it and really help mold and shape it into an incredible book. Don't be attached to anything that you wrote, really trust your editor when they recommend taking something out, or adding something new in!

It sounds a little weird but writing a book feels a little like pregnancy. You spend every day working on this project in a way that is private and sort of intimate. When I was finished with my first draft I really missed being with the book every day.

I actually never had writer's block. I wrote this book really quickly because I have been living this for over a decade. It just flowed out of me :)
