I find a quiet, comfy spot to curl up with atmospheric music playing (no words!). A breeze and sunshine help, or a fan and nature-scented candles. Then I close my eyes and start daydreaming. I gloss over the parts snagging me up, and focus on locking down what comes next in as much detail as possible. That consequently dictates what needs to happen in the places where I'd gotten stuck. Then I make sure to get it all down before I forget anything.

I am working on the manuscript for my next novel in the ELFKIND universe. It's currently called CHASING BROTHER MOON, and it tells the story of Lariel's grandmother, Larea. She emerged as a fascinating tangent to Lariel's story, and I felt compelled to turn her back-story into a full length novel of her own. Larea's story needed telling.

ELFKIND is a culmination of daydreams. I used them to return to the world after losing a major relationship. So imagine my surprise when, thematically, the book turned out to be about loss – experiencing it, coming to grips with it, and moving on with purpose.
