Hi Paula,
Yes, I do have it open. Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I'm still feeling a bit like I'm out of my league in the group. A lot of very thoughtful stuff put out here. But I do like the challenge, and it gets me writing and thinking! I've been thinking about this one since it came out and it came to me in bits and pieces while I was at work. So I stayed late at my desk and fleshed it out.
I'm glad you liked the ending. It comes from having six kids who are often in time out. I thought it was clever myself, along with my backwards title.
Again, I appreciate the positive feedback!
Best,
Justin

I read! I enjoy learning about military history from any era and reading other science-fiction. This gets me thinking about my work and really primes the mental pump to create my own stories.

Before finishing Cerulean Rising: Beginnings, I already knew this would be a series of books set in the universe I was helping create. Interestingly enough, I had a second book well underway, but our team leader wanted to go a different direction. So after much discussion, the book I had slated to be the immediate sequel was moved to be book three (currently untitled.)
This put me, unexpectedly, back at square one from a story perspective. However, the end of Beginnings gave me a starting point and events for Evolutions developed from there.

Honestly, a good run outside or on my treadmill helps immensely with my thinking process. The extra circulation to my brain probably helps, but I find that running helps my mind to wander and ideas coalesce. I've been stuck several times wondering where the story might go and running has helped me to push through it.
What I find more debilitating is "writer's fear," the hesitation I get if I haven't written for a few days. To overcome that, I read a few chapters prior to my current stopping point and that helps me get back into the flow of things.

Are you willing to write for an audience of one? What I mean is, if you knew that only one other person was going to read your book, poetry collection, whatever it is you are passionate about, would you keep writing? If you can answer "yes," then keep writing. Hugh Howey, author of Amazon success "Wool" summed it up like this. Are you going to promote your one book, trying to drum up sales, or are you going to keep working on the next one?

I'm currently working on Cerulean Rising: Evolutions, the sequel to Beginnings. It picks up immediately after the events in the first book and will be released sometime during the third quarter of this year (2015).
