Reading a history book, I saw a picture from inside the church where the Wounded Knee victims were taken after the massacre. There was a single sentence that struck me about Big Foot's wife having lived for three days before she died. I thought, "that's it. The only mention of a woman in the whole book? And only that she was his wife?" I wanted to give her more life.

I'm currently working on my fourth novel. It's about the Wounded Knee massacre. I'm reading stacks of books and finding so many don't agree with each other. Honest historical facts can sometimes be hard to tease out.
