This is an easy one for me. I would go to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and take tea with Mr. Darcy!

I often think of a random plot twist such as "An armadillo rambled through the door..." and just go with it. Other times, I let the story simmer for a little bit while I work on something else. When I come back, I feel fresh and ready to start up again.

Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Benet of course! Pride and Prejudice remains one of my all time favorite books.

My mind works in a rather round about way when it comes to ideas. I think it synthesizes all of my life experiences and creates something new. I can be looking at a rock and a wonderful story of a butterfly comes to me! Sometimes I work with a general concept, but even that often morphs into something else. Also, many of my stories are based on very detailed dreams I have had. Basically, I believe my mind is wired for story writing and that is what is does non-stop even while I am sleeping!

Honestly? Living in a world of my own creation. What could be better than that!

Keep writing! Try different genres. Make connections. Lots of them. One of those connections may help you later down the road. Submit your work everywhere that seems appropriate for your style. Take rejections as feedback, not as a sign that you should stop writing. When you get negative feedback listen with a discerning ear. Some of that feedback will make you a better writer. However, always stay true to yourself and your style. Above all, love what you are doing. That love and passion for your work is the proof that you are doing exactly what you should be!

I started by batting around ideas with my sons. Then those ideas formed in my head into a story line. For me, the story mostly writes itself. I simply follow where it leads.

I am currently working on the sequel to my newest novel A Case in Candy Land.
